Description:The story is set in a small Cornish fishing village for a period of approximately ten years, starting in 1947. Chief characters are: a farmer's daughter ready to welcome back her boy, a fisherman who has been minesweeping with his father; a naval Chief Petty Officer with his wife, coming to live in the old Coastguards cottages on the cliffs where their next-door neighbour is an ex POW. The 'Squire' of the village, his wife and their daughter, a war widow with a small son; the 'incomer' a divorcee who opens a gift shop in the village and the Squire's son, a naval officer at the time with the Occupation Forces in Hamburg. Also the Harbourmaster/Lifeboat Coxswain and an Intelligence Officer, working with the ex POW, whose attention is drawn to a later incomer and certain activities in his motor launch.
