Excerpt: Eric Demarqua Maynor (born June 11, 1987) is an American professional basketball player at point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA. He played college basketball for the VCU Rams. As a senior he averaged 22.4 points, 6.2 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game in the 2008-2009 season. Maynor started at Hoke County High School, then transferred to Westover High School his senior year to play alongside his best friend and AAU teammate De'shaune Griffin. Maynor led the team to the North Carolina state championship game, scoring 25 points on March 14, 2005 in a loss to North Mecklenburg High School. On March 15, 2007, Maynor scored 22 points, including the game-winning shot, in VCU's victory over Duke in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. This shot, popularized by the CBS call, has been known as the Duke Dagger. Maynor's last-minute heroics are also what helped VCU to overcome George Mason in the 2007 CAA championship game.
