Not illustrated. 1878. Excerpt: ... MEMOIR. The subject of this Memoir was born on November 8,1768, at the Glebe House, at Pallas, in the county of Limerick. His parents were the descendants of families long known and distinguished in British history, his father, the Rev. John Seymour, being a descendant of one of the family of the Protector Somerset, who had settled in Ireland, William, the father of John Seymour, having been Mayor and Sheriff of Limerick; and his mother was descended from the family of Hobart, the head of which holds the title of Earl of Buckinghamshire. In a letter of hers to her son, she says, ' I can remember that my grandfather Hobart, being bred at court, gave my father such an high opinion of the English, that he hated Ireland, and always wanted to persuade us that we were not Irish; that the first of the name of Hobart came over Equerry to King William; that the family could be traced back to the reign of Henry II.; and he showed us an old book from Wiltshire, where there were three baronets, Sir William, Sir Miles, and Sir John Hobart.' But although u 21 his parents could thus boast of noble ancestry, they had virtues which rendered them more dear and venerable in his sight than anything arising from the mere accident of birth. His father, being intended for holy orders, was sent at the proper age to Trinity College, Dublin; during his residence at that university, he displayed that regularity of conduct, amiability of demeanour, and strong good sense, which so singularly marked his character in after life.
