The following articles, extracted from "an American" publication, so completely agree with our views on Artillery and "Metals," that we have thought it valuable to transcribe them entire, as they condense many valuable data. If any doubt existed as to the utter incapacity of his excellency -o be entrusted with the command of the Land and Naval Forces of the Republic--the annexed official order, after a full knowledge that the two Big Guns on board the Princeton, constructed at seven times the cost of cast-iron, had cracked and burst with unparalleled loss of life--the most sceptical will be convinced, after reading the Congressional documents, that he is a qualified candidate for admission to a Lunatic Asylum. It appears from the record, that it was not until the first gun constructed in England by Captain Stockton, on his own individual account, had cracked, that the Government became the purchaser; and with the knowledge of the fact, a second was ordered to be constructed at an expense of 11,488 dollars; after the bursting of the second, a third is ordered without reference to cost. Is not this an impeachable offence 1 submit the question to the decision of Chancellor Kent. Washington, March 14, 1844.
