The Beachcombers Shack and other Poems

Luke McEwen
4.9/5 (32585 ratings)
Description:The Beachcomber’s ShackThe allure of the beachcomber’s shackfrom jumble and junk to magical form.So too, a boy transcends his simple design, absorbing all that is found along the way, appraising each adornment for size and need.Cherished flotsam, prized odds, and precious ends,a puzzle with missing pieces and picture lid.In truth, more orchid-shaped than square, more measured chaos than architectural flair.A place to live and breathe the summer days.People would come, some would stay, but no one logged the tides or moon.A north-westerly ripped the roof,it pulled and flapped like a stubborn gull. Some scrap of rope would fix it quick, yet no one searched upon the shore, and before the full moon could shine, the orchid shelter’s petals fell.In a brutal wind he withered and tipped,a skeleton of timber and tarp. How unyielding the seasons arrive. The Autumn spring tide washed him freeto depart and welcome his new home, sea.Peter Erskine “I have seldom seen in one small volume such a distinctly honest and personal series of reflections on life as it is today. The poems, comments and pictures all contribute to this feeling. I find his poetic meditations wide-ranging, sincere and profound. I loved the Cocktail Party observations!”Luke McEwen: This is a collection of my poems and is titled The Beachcomber’s Shack to reflect that it is not a collection with a common theme but the ideas and feelings I have collected along the way. This is a living document which is added to each year.I began writing poetry seriously in 2015 and so this collection shows a mixture of styles. There are eight poems that have already been published in my novel the The Angel of Eddystone and four from The Legacy of Eddystone. The layout of this collection is not traditional: I have included images, explanations and context. As an early reader of poetry, I was always frustrated when the meaning of a poem wasn’t self-evident and have often wondered whether the author of those collections would have left their collections so enigmatic had they had more editorial control and been less slavish to convention. The poems are set out in reverse chronological order of inspiration, to celebrate my latest creativity. All the pictures were created by me, unless otherwise stated. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
