He played an active role in New Zealand's Land Search and Rescue Organisation, particularly for two to three years after the untimely death of L.D. (Bill) Bridge, the original founder of the Land Search and Rescue organization in New Zealand.He was a member of the Tongariro National Park Board for ten years ad has served as a Board Member of a number of voluntary organizations.
