Economics We Can 'All' Understand: U.S. Edition

Alex MacMillan
4.9/5 (30736 ratings)
Description:Economics is confusing to more people than it is not. Who benefits and who is hurt by our mixed capitalist/government system? Democrats and Republicans, those on the left and right, make diametrically opposing claims about economic issues. This book sorts it all out, but leaves it to the reader to decide whether in the end our economic system provides good results, and whether it is fair and just.People's incentives to become better off drive people to take economic actions. And it is the actions of individuals as consumers, workers, investors and politicians that create the economy. We all understand people and their incentives, so it is not difficult to explain how the economy works. Unless, we are professional economists, of course, and have an incentive to make our subject matter look more sophisticated than it really is. Then we may want to jazz it up with fancy graphs and equations. Not my objective. Nor do everyday people have the time or inclination to grind their way through anything resembling a first year college economics textbook. This book is a short one because, for this particular subject, a short book is more appealing to the reader, and also because it doesn't take that many words to explain in simple terms how people's actions create the economy as we know it. In my career as a business economics professor at Ryerson and Queen's Universities, and St. Lawrence College in Canada, and as a visiting professor at Duke University, I have published more 'sophisticated' economics textbooks, one of which was adapted for the Australian market, and another translated into Chinese and used at the China Enterprise Management Training Centre at Chengdu. But now that I'm retired, I have fulfilled a long-held desire to tackle the subject of economics in the straightforward manner in which it should be explained. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
