After all, on her last mission, she was assigned courier duty in the Middle East, with no authorization to kill anyone, She arrived in a slinky dress and stiletto heels to serve in her cover identity as arm candy for the brother of an international arms dealer known as Ahmad. She had no trouble following the script until the brother tried selling a twelve year old girl into slavery. She used one of her stiletto heels to dispatch the brother and, in retaliation, Ahmad has put a million dollar bounty on her life (A million for her corpse. Ten million to see her alive). To keep her safe, the CIA has her situated in Sinful, Louisiana, where she enjoys regaling us with tales of her adventures with the townfolk of that humble village. In this story, however, she wants us to appreciate her father's skills. As she says, "It's a shame you don't have the clearance for me to go into detail about his career--well maybe it isn't--but, take my word for it. ... He attained legendary status within the Agency." Then, she remembers one incident she can relate without violating too many secrets. He wasn't working as an assassin, but performing one of the myriad of duties an agent faces day-to-day. This incident shows his skill in assessing the complexities of a situation as well as determining the motives of the people he is involved with in each assignment. This mission involves the country of Divistan. As Sinful, Louisiana is located somewhere a couple of hours from New Orleans, Divistan is located somewhere between Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The mission takes place in the mid-1980's,during the Soviet invasion of Divistan. Her father is in Divistan to track down a channel for drug trafficking when he receives a new assignment - Tell a university rabble-rouser, who goes by the name of Unknown, to "cool it" since the people he is stirring into a frenzy won't have the arms and support personnel they need to fight the Soviets for another month. As he tries to reach Unknown, he is pinned down by a sniper. The CIA's top assassin faces assassination, himself! He shows his skills in assessing the complexities of a situation by surviving. He shows his skills in determining the motives of the people he's involved with by figuring out who set him up. Eventually, he learns he is in a part of the world where borders are lines arbitrarily drawn on a map. There are no boundaries to stop him.
