Description:This is a fascinating play about personal ambition and the struggle for power in a -semi-modern- African state called Masero, ruled by an Emperor who has no son and has not named a successor among any of his chiefs. The drama centres around Chief Oriomura, an am-bitious scheming man, who plays all his cards to eliminate the other contestants for the successor's position. He picks on the politically naive Chief Sasia as the ally through whom to eliminate Chief Jandi, generally regarded as the most likely successor. They force the cooperation of the wilful Zira who agrees to discredit Jandi by claiming that the baby she is expecting is his and not Sasia's. Jandi is subsequently banished and rumour spreads that he has committed suicide. Oriomura then gets to work on Sasia's naivety to clear the way for himself by encouraging him to get rid of Zira.
