Description:The study of history is geared towards teaching potent lessons from the past. How victories were wrought, why defeats were suffered, and lessons to be learnt from such routing, either of nations or individuals. Learning for mankind we recognize is an on-going process, which ceases when we die. In my book "When Inside the fiery furnace" I delved into history, my history, in the hope that readers will garner a lesson or two from my experience. Nations too have their own , and the way governance in my country had affected me as an ordinary Nigerian was what you were inundated with in that book. The Bible says that leaders are put in position by God, that power emanates from Him and that He reposes it in whoever He wills. How the powers that be had touched my life has been succinctly described in that book, but how these leaders have exercised their powers have made or mar destinies, and Nigerians capacity to contribute effectively to the development of their country. Mention was made of various leaders in that book and how their style of administration have impinged upon my life. I promised then that I will devote an entire book to talking about these various regimes, especially since I became an eligible voter in 1975 and was no longer unduly influenced by what other people said or wrote about them, which I consider to be their own perception of such administration. By 1975, I have become very literate, able to process very intelligently comments and information I received from the mass media and other sources, analyze them in order to arrive at a logical conclusion as an informed citizen of Nigeria.. Also at this time, I was already out of the secondary school and was in the higher institution - The Polytechnic, Ibadan. I have been involved, not only in students politics - though as an informed voter - but was very aware of how the utterances, actions and in-actions of our leaders at state and national levels were affecting Nigerian lives.. Therefore, as an ordinary citizen, with the sobriquet "common man on the street" I have actively participated as a student and civilian in the politics and political development of my country for almost forty (40) years, and I can claim to be an authentic voice and an unbiased representative of the common man in my expression of the ways these various regimes - from Murtala Muhammed in 1975 to the present dispensation under the President Goodluck Jonathan has affected my life. Many of the protagonists during the period under review in this book have attempted, either directly or through their friends, admirers or even relatives - to re-write history, painting in fanciful colors the role they played or that of their paymasters, in an attempt to explain how we came to this sorry state, which, if you ask me, is not a bed of roses for majority of us. Corruption, that canker, which was rarely mentioned under our colonial masters have become rampart and pervasive since the 1st republic and which now threatens to destroy our country. Corruption has become the public enemy number 1, 2 and 3, and has even been tacitly recognized as a way of life in Nigeria. But can we sincerely say that only President Jonathan is to blame for this sorry state? This book has come to do justice to that, sit back, relax and enjoy yourself as you read my accounts.
