Description:The popularity of the first edition of the Guidebook on Nuclear Techniques in Hydrology, which was published in 1968, was due partly to the fact that it was the only publication dealing with the subject and partly to the desire by hydrologists to learn more of what at that time were relatively new techniques. The Guidebook was prepared within the framework of the International Hydrological Decade, which was carried out by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This Decade was subsequently followed by a longer-term International Hydrological Programme (IHP), also co-ordinated by UNESCO. New developments in nuclear techniques in hydrology warrant a completely revised Guidebook, which has been prepared as a contribution to the IHP. The aim of this revised edition remains unchanged, namely, to provide a review of the principles and examples of applications of the broad range of nuclear techniques now available to the hydrologist.
