How does the healthy personality perceive life?Here human existence is explored world-wide through Arts and Science (photography, poetry, philosophy, psychology and psychological research). First the literature concerning life as perceived by poets, philosophers, psychologists and cosmologists is reviewed. No comprehensive theory of life based on life as experienced emerged from their furious efforts, although their images of life ever remains a wraith factor on life’s stage.Thus the first improbable project was to collect images of life as experienced world-wide. Thousands of photographs were found or produced, reduced in number and factor analyzed resulting in a photographic theory of life composed of “Seven Montages of Life” and paraphrased to become a Cosmological Theory of Life with seven factors and a general factor (Appreciation of Life). The seven factors and general factor provide a “Life Orientation Grid” for individuals analogous to the Global Positioning System.Following the development of the constructs of the “human comedy”, the research narrative describes the personality or characteristics of those who evolve, adjust and appreciate life (the autogenous personality). It was found that persons who are authentic, open, commonness and universally oriented are more likely to successfully contend with life changes and challenges, the vicissitudes of life – or “the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune”. Furthermore persons of this nature were found to show higher indices on the measures of Life Appreciation and other indicators of the Healthy Personality.It is concluded that the Cosmological Theory of Life makes the most sense of life by virtue of its comprehensiveness and grounding in life as experienced world-wide. Thus the Cosmological Theory of Life presents a basis for universal understanding of life and may be the missing link in the evolution of world peace. Moreover the theory provides a basic structure for inquiry, research, measurement and hypothesis testing for programs of study such as “Psychology and Life” or “Education for Life” and even “Utopia”. All of which rather awkwardly eschew the question of a theory of life or even a definition of life resulting in a haphazard selection of topics presumed to be the most critical if not inclusive or connected in any theoretical sense.
