Whenever selections have been made from larger works the title of the latter has been given at the close of the selection. This will serve as a guide to the pupil in his home reading. The selections are all in the language of the authors, and will intro duce the reader to the styles and qualities of individual writers. This acquaintance will form a basis for intelligent discrimination in the matter of reading, and at the same time develop the pupil's power in the use of language. Excellent portraits and carefully prepared biographical sketches of each author are given. These will add to the pupil's interest and give him valuable aid in his further investigations.
