I had asked the Lord, even fifteen years ago, that I might live to see the day, when the great whore, who with her fornication had corrupted the whole world, would receive her punishment. But I never dreamed that I should be the author of this book. Nor did I conceive the idea after the actual declaration of war. I merely wrote a brief article for the press calling attention to certain prophecies in Ezekiel, Daniel and the book of Revelation, with the particular object of warning the small remnant of God's people in England of the approaching doom.
