Description:When married father of two, Joe McDonnell is informed that his mother is seriously ill he decides to investigate the life story of the woman who raised him. Sifting through official documents, correspondence and conversations, Joe discovers that his Mum, Marie Grace, was born in a field in rural Ireland in the 1950s. Abandoned and left to die, Marie is found by a passing farmer. Placed in an orphanage and then, later on, in foster care, Marie endures a life of hard work and abuse and is destined for a future in a religious run laundry. At fourteen, Marie meets her birth mother who is about to leave the country for a new life in England. Shortly afterwards, Marie runs away from her foster home to a nearby city. Over the next 20 years Joe’s mother and grandmother conduct a long distance relationship until 1986 when his grandmother is registered on a police ‘missing persons’ list. Having been abandoned by her mother twice in the past, Marie travels to England to see if she can track her down. As Joe McDonnell sifts through his mother’s story a picture slowly emerges of a remarkable woman who has battled church, state and even her own family to survive. With the clock ticking, Joe tries to find the missing pieces of his mother’s life before it's too late.
