Dubois, Dr. Graham Lusk, Dr. E. B. Forbes, and Dr. Carl Voegtlin, dealing with various phases bf human and animal nutrition, was given under the auspices of the Washington Academy of Sciences during April, 1916, at the New National Museum, Washington, D. C. In View of the wide - spread interest in the lectures and the importance of the subject, and in response to numerous requests, the Academy has reprinted in collected form a limited edition of the lectures as published in the Journal of the Academy. It has also seemed desirable to include, as a fitting introduction to the series, the address of the retiring president of the Chemi cal Society of Washington, Dr. C. L. Alsberg, which was pre sented in January, 1916, before a joint meeting of the Chemical Society and the Academy.
