Description:The Scottish Council on Industry was created in 1942 on the initiative of the then Secretary of State for Scotland, Tom Johnston MP. The greater part of expanded wartime production had been met by the creation of new capacity in the South and the Midlands of England, while productive space in Scotland was increasingly devoted to storage uses. Mr Johnston set up the Council on Industry to give advice in relation to this and other economic and industrial problems created by wartime conditions. The Council's first pamphlet, written by Charles Allen Oakley, looked at post-war opportunities for industrial development. In 1939, Oakley had compiled the Industrial Map of Scotland, a map and index which identified the 2,500 manufacturing companies then employing 50 or more people in Scotland. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
