Description:In 1988 personnel of the Anthropological Studies Center, Sonoma State University, excavated portions of city block IJ89, Sacramento, California, prior to development. This monograph reports on the excavation of part of the backlot of the San Fong Chong Laundry at 814 I Street which operated at this site from 1895 until 1954, and may have been in business one lot to the east from the 1850s. Artifacts representing both domestic and commercial aspects of the site were found in the form of sheet refuse within soil lenses that were cumulatively only six inches deep. The archaeological deposits represent activities on the site in the early 20th century.
