Briggs, D.D., as "Davenport Professor of Hebrew and Cognate Languages" in Union Theological Seminary, took place in the Chapel, Thursday, September 21, 1876. Norman White, Esq., Vice-President of the Board of Directors, announced that Dr. Briggs, who had previously served the Seminary for two years as Provisional Professor with great acceptance, had been unanimously elected to the chair, inwhich he had now been inaugurated, at the meeting of the Board in May last; at which time the Professor elect made declaration of his assent to the Articles prescribed in our Constitution. Prayer was offered by Rev. W. M. Taylor, D.D. After this, the Address now published was delivered by Prof. Briggs.
