Her husband is absent without emotional leave, and Merile's sorrowful heart intersects with the poetic idealism of a struggling young writer. It is a triangle in which power, love, and passion play against each other amid ivied walls, hushed libraries, and lovely tinkling carillons on long, sad, sunny afternoons.
