Bell(e)s of St. Petersburg

Milton Paul Magly
4.9/5 (24417 ratings)
Description:Local author writing about St. Petersburg, Florida. It was meant as a 254 page advertisement for the City of St. Petersburg and encourage northerners to retire to St. Pete. The book tells the story of a new retiree and his first 8 months in St. Pete from November 1960 to the summer of 1961. The author was from Flushing, NY; in the shirt business and moves to Florida to recover from taking care of an ailing wife (now passed)and restart his life. I found the book entertaining, but probably for the wrong reasons, Mr. Magly is VERY conservative and would not care for St. Pete today. Although, I did find his description of the city interesting, several places mentioned in the book are still around, and very popular. The book is written in a very formal, archaic style; something this author probably felt would attract the "right" people to St. Pete back in the day. This book can be found in the St. Petersburg Library, main branch on 9th Avenue and the book contains an inscription stating the book was presented to the Mayor and City Council in 1963.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
