AS a naval academy football player he was a terror to the opposing team, especially West Point. He showed his great energy and gift for action here. He was the first man to ever wear a football helmet. It was during the later part of his active career that airplanes were developed and adopted by the Navy. He had the vision to see their capabilities and, more than that, to build up and organize the Naval Air Force Of the United States Navy, and there is none finer.
