Description:Excerpt from Journal of the Primary Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church: In the Diocese of Central New York The Bishop of Western New York, in his Convention Address of 1865, called attention to the importance of "providing for the erection of at least one more See among the three half-million souls, and the more than twenty thousand square miles of Western New York." In his Address to the Convention of 1860, he recommended that action should be taken with a view to the consummation of the measure at the General Convention of 1868; and suggested that the whole subject be referred to a Committee, who should report, at the next Diocesan Convention, as to the steps to be taken and the principles to be recognised. Appointment of the Committee. In accordance with the recommendation of the Bishop, the Convention of 1866 referred the subject of the Division of the Diocese to a Committee of Fifteen members, with instructions to report to the next Annual Convention.
