There is a short explanation in regard to explosions, and such illustrations have been inserted as it is hoped will aid in the elucidation of the subjects treated upon. Some useful miscellaneous facts, and some tables for shortening the labor of calculation, etc., will be found in the Appendix. A list of the books more frequently consulted, and of which free use has been made, is annexed, to enable those so desiring to study the subject in its entirety.
