Description:Excerpt from Addresses at the Unveiling and Presentation to the State of the Statue of Thomas Ruffin by the North Carolina Bar Association: Delivered in the Hall of the House of Representatives, 1 February, 1915 On the evening of February 1, 1915, in the Hall of the House of Representatives, at Raleigh, the North Carolina Bar Association presented to the State of North Carolina a bronze statue of the late Thomas Ruffin. The statue was executed by F. H. Packer of New York. Hon. H. G. Connor, Chairman of the Committee of the Bar Association, presided at the exercises. An address on the life and character of Chief Justice Ruffin was delivered by Hon. Walter Clark, Chief Justice of North Carolina. The statue was presented to the State by Hon. J. Crawford Biggs, President of the North Carolina Bar Association, and accepted on behalf of the State by Governor Locke Craig. It was unveiled by Thomas Ruffin and Peter Browne Ruffin, great-grandchildren of Chief Justice Ruffin, and has been set up in the State Administration Building in which the Supreme Court of North Carolina holds its sessions.
