Lifted Up - Between a Pharisee & a Thief: An in-depth look at the Gospel of John by a Jewish Rabbi ... and a convicted felon

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (17447 ratings)
Description:“Lifted Up – Between a Pharisee & a Thief” is a parallel verse-by-verse commentary on the Gospel of John from two radically different perspectives and addressing two very different audiences: a Messianic Jewish Rabbi speaking to his home congregation, and a convicted felon – a Gentile – teaching a class of brand-new converts ... as a prisoner himself. This contrast is the core of this book and provides the reader with a unique balance reflecting the character and understanding of the early Church, originally 100% Jewish yet quickly spreading throughout the Roman Empire with its Hellenistic world view. The Gospel of John contains some of the Bible's best-known verses yet also some of its most profound truths. “Lifted Up – Between a Pharisee & a Thief” challenges conventional views of the Gospel while highlighting the power of God not only to bring His own Chosen People to faith, but also to transform lives shattered by rebellion, addiction and sin. It is a volume not to be missed by the sincere follower of the First-Century Jewish Rabbi most of us call Jesus. The Gospel of John unfolds with all the drama of a good mystery, complete with increasing conflict, deadly betrayal, murder plots, and characters full of both strength and weakness. More than 90% of its material is unique, yet it also contains essential truths about the character of our God, how He deals with his people, why people suffer, and finding hope for those who have committed grievous errors. The struggle between how differently Gentiles and Jews see the world is addressed at length in the New Testament, and without an understanding of the fundamentals in the Gospel of John, contemporary believers will inevitably stray from sound doctrine and practice. The unique perspective brought in “Lifted Up – Between a Pharisee & a Thief” is essential to understanding what the itinerant Rabbi from Galilee taught, how He lived and what was accomplished by his life, death and resurrection. About the Authors Joel Liberman Joel Liberman is rabbi of Tree of Life, a Messianic Jewish congregation located in San Diego, CA, where he has ministered and taught for 18 years. Joel holds a Master of Divinity degree in Ministry with a concentration in Biblical Studies, and has been deeply involved in the three main Messianic Jewish organizations worldwide since 2001. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA), is the Director of Operations and Development of the International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues (IAMCS), and is the former Executive Director of the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA). James Murphy James Murphy brings a very different worldview and life experience to the table. He was orphaned at 11. On his own and on the streets at 16. He’s been homeless as an adult, and over the course of his life, has served almost 10 years in prison. He writes not from the perspective of a highly successful ministry leader, but as one who has seen up close and experienced personally things we would wish on no one. Yet he’s also had some great successes in his life. For more than four years he was the senior writer for The Timothy Group and wrote World Vision US’ Major Donor Track for 10 years. Later James was Marketing Resource Manager for World Vision International. James was Director of Development for Victory Outreach Los Angeles, an inner-city gang outreach and rehabilitation ministry for three years, during which time he tripled their income. Aside from his writing career, he currently serves as Vice President on the Board of Directors of Jesus Cares Ministry, Inc.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
