Description:Pentagon Five Pentagon Five is a ‘stand-alone’ book but it is also the sequel to my first novel, 'That Will Do Nicely' where the main characters of Pascoe, Sam, Jim and Mary Roberts were established. Pascoe and Sam ended up in a remote part of southern France, in the foothills of the Pyrenees where they purchased an old, run-down farm and renovated it to create a holiday centre for artists. Later, they were joined by Jim Roberts and his wife Mary. Roberts a retired ex-New Scotland Yard detective, was the copper who tracked Pascoe and Sam down after their successful fraud. 'Pentagon Five' commences in the late 1980’s. The Holidays for Artists centre is up and running and they have just said ‘goodbye’ to their last guests. At the end of a busy first season, everyone at the holiday centre is ready to wind down and relax, but this is not to be when their peace is shattered by the dishevelled and sudden appearance of one of their neighbors who has discovered a body on the nearby Old Celtic Track. The neighbour, a young Englishman from the next farm down the hillside has discovered the naked body of a young man hanged from a tree beside the track. Roberts naturally takes charge and accompanies the youth to the scene. What he discovers, shocks him to the core. The French gendarmes eventually turn up and take charge and some days later, the senior officer notifies Roberts that the death has been classified as suicide which Roberts knows is a lie as it is obviously a ritual murder and when he discovers that the body is of an English student, he decides to investigate further.Roberts finds out that the youth was investigating the mysterious village of Rennes-le-Château which lies a few miles away from their farm and all four friends become quickly entangled in the stories associated with the village, the priest Bérenger Saunière and the lost treasures which have long been associated with it. They decide to follow in the late youth’s footsteps, only too unaware of the dangers they might be facing. Roberts goes to London to investigate the victim and calls in favors from his Scotland Yard colleagues including evidence from the yard’s famous Black Museum. Their investigations take lead them to mysterious groups, the Priory of Sion, the Cathars, the crusades, the treasure of the Visigoths and the treasure of the Temple of Solomon ; lastly the massacre of the Cathars at Montségur.'Pentagon Five' draws on the experience of the author who co-wrote one of the seminal non-fictional works on the subject, 'Geneset - Target Earth'. So, although this story is fiction, many of the facts and the quoted literature are real. For example some years ago, a body was discovered in the same area as where this book is set. The body was of an Englishman and his name was David Wood – not, I must add, the co-author of Geneset but someone with an identical name. Was this co-incidence or did they get the wrong guy? Whatever, for decades now, there have always been rumours of the presence of members of the security services in the area of Rennes-le-Château always on the look-out for strangers and their investigations. As they say truth is far stranger than fiction.The specific literature quoted in the book is all real and relevant to the investigations that have taken place (both in this fictional account) and in reality. When Pentagon Five was written these books were impossible to find. Now, with the advent of the internet, they are readily available. They are fascinating reading in any case and I thoroughly recommend them all. So is Pentagon Five fiction or non-fiction? I think ‘faction’ would be a better description.
