November 1359 in Thessalonike) war ein orthodoxer byzantinischer Theologe, Schriftsteller und Erzbischof von Thessalonike. Er wurde 1368 heiliggesprochen und zahlt zu den hochsten Autoritaten der ostlichen Kirche. Seine Lehre, der Palamismus, war die letzte Weiterentwicklung der orthodoxen Theologie, die fur verbindlich erklart wurde. Ein Hauptmerkmal des Palamismus ist seine Unterscheidung zwischen einem prinzipiell fur die Geschopfe unzuganglichen Wesen Gottes und den Energien Gottes, mit denen Gott sich zu erkennen gebe.
