D., an eminent non-conformist minister in his day, who came to this country in 1636, from Lincolnshire, England, where he was born, and was in early life settled first as rector of Lynn Regis, and afterward as rector of the parish at Skirbeck, near Boston. The old church in which he ministered at Skirbeck is said to be still standing, (surrounded by the graves of his long-departed parishioners. Late in the year of his coming to Massachusetts (November, 1636), Mr. Whiting became the minister of the first church in Lynn, and remained in that relation till 1679, when he died, universally lamented and honored, at the age of eighty-two years.
