Heinlein touches on many of his major themes: the importance of self-reliance, a disdain for overly large government, fair trading, frontier living, a love for math and education in general, and the love of family. There is a big dose of self-deprecation with regard to writers.It's interesting that there is some foreshadowing of both the Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Stranger in a Strange Land, even though the two books weren't published for another 10 and 15 years.
