Description:The Irish Defense Forces celebrated their 80th anniversary as a formal military organization in 2004. Born in civil war, they have never been called upon to fight against an external enemy but have nevertheless established a formidable reputation in international peacekeeping, both under the auspices of the United Nations and more recently the Partnership for Peace.
