In planning the pipe-work of a steam plant the fitter should keep his eyes open to the matter of neatness in radiator connections, and the best way to secure the neatest job is to use valves and fittings that are specially made for particular situations which may be encountered. The angle radiator valve is one that can often be used to advantage over that of the regular pattern. The angle radiator valve is shown in Figs. 171 and 172, and are intended to be used where the supply or return lines to radiators are carried above the floor for some distance and passing back from radiator at right angles. How To Set Globe Valves On Steam Heating Plants. The globe valve is not a good construction for use on low pressure steam heating work, for the reason that in any position it adds a large amount of friction and retards the flow of steam. In such heating plants there are some positions in which this make of valve might be placed by incompetent persons which would entirely cut off the circulation of steam although such valve might be open. To explain this point, we show a globe valvo placed in a horizontal line of pipe with the stuffing box in an upright position, and, as will be noticed, the entire passageway for steam is obstructed bT condensation.
