Description:English The American André Previn (b. 1929 in Berlin) is one of the most versatile musicians of today. For over thirty years he has directed the leading orchestras of the world and recorded over 300 records. As a classical piano virtuoso he has worked with such distinguished colleagues as Vladimir Ashkenazy and Leonard Bernstein. He also worked in Hollywood, where, among other distinctions, he won four Oscars. Moreover, at the height of his influence he played on the legendary Jazz stages of the Newport Jazz Festival and the Apollo Theater in New York and his was the first Jazz album to be certified platinum. While he had songs at the top of the American Billboard-Pop charts, he developed his version of "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1988) into one of the most staged contemporary operas. Over a half century of work he has won over a dozen Grammy awards in "Crossover", "Classical", "Jazz", "Film", and "Pop music" categories as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award.
