Gary manages an airport there, and Joan is a flight instructor.But the couple's interest these days is on the primary hypothetical statement of the Hypothesis: There are three states of existence: Temporal, Sequential and Concurrent. In the Temporal State, events are spaced by time. In the Sequential State, events happen sequentially, but are not (necessarily) spaced by time. In the Concurrent State, all events happen concurrently. Gary always left the reason for his adding "necessarily" to the reader of the Hypothesis.
