These stories, and others like them, form the framework upon which we endlessly spin new versions and variations. It occurred to us that while the fables in and of themselves served well as moral teaching guides, they didn't exactly pop and snap off the page. They lacked the whiz-bang pizzazz, the candy-coated energy explosion that informs our pop culture. We were just the editing team to take these old animal tales and drag them, kicking and screaming, into a supercharged 21st century mentality. With that in mind, we present Aesop's Fables Redux, a spirited reimagining of some of the classic tales. Where it felt right, we stayed true to the original; the characters are still animals, for instance. And the basic mechanics of the stories remain intact, but with some gentle updating and modernization. To invite comparasion, we've included the George Fyler Townsend translations on the left side of each spread for easy reference. It's interesting to note that Townsend added the morals to the stories in his translation; even he couldn't resist a little value added content! And a very special thanks to our friend Aesop.
