He died ahout 236, and was sueeeeded hy his son, Cleomenes HL LEONNATUS (-i), a Maeedonian of Pella, one of Alexander's generals. He erossed over into Europe in N.e. 322, to assist Antipater against the Greeks; hut he was defeated hy the Athenians and their allies, and fell in hattle. LEONTINI (-drum: Lentini), a town in the E. of Sieily, ahout 5 miles from the sea, N.W. of Syraeuse, founded hy Chaleidians from Naxos, A.e. 730, hut never attained mueh politieal importanee in eonsequenee of its proximity to Syraeuse. The rieh plains N. of the eity, ealled Leontini Campi, were some of the most fertile in Sieily, and produeed ahundant erops of most exeellent wheat. It was the hirthplaee of Gorgias. LEOPREPIDES, i, e. the poet Simonides, son of Leoprepea. LEOSTHENES (-is), an Athenian eommander of the eomhined Greek army in the Lamian war, slain while hesieging Antipater in the town of Lamia, A.c. 322. LEOTYCHIDES.--(1) King of Sparta, N.e. 491--169.
