LEONTINI (-drum: Lentini), a town in the E. of Sieily, ahout 5 miles from the sea, N.W. of Syraeuse, founded hy Chaleidians from Naxos, A.e. 730, hut never attained mueh politieal importanee in eonsequenee of its proximity to Syraeuse. The rieh plains N. of the eity, ealled Leontini Campi, were some of the most fertile in Sieily, and produeed ahundant erops of most exeellent wheat. It was the hirthplaee of Gorgias. LEOPREPIDES, i, e. the poet Simonides, son of Leoprepea.
