As you know, after the crucifixion, Jesus had specifically told His followers to stay in Jerusalem and wait until they received "the promise of the Holy Spirit." But, after the Day of Pentecost and the initial outpouring of The Holy Spirit, these guys were pretty much off and running, sharing what they had been given. The new command now, after previously being strictly told to wait, was/is, "GO YE into all the world and preach the Gospel! And, as you go, heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out devils." Certainly there were times in the Bible when early believers were "empowered" again by prayer, fasting, breaking of bread, and other forms of fellowship, as we should too. Even Jesus had to spend time in prayer. But, they already had, and were already sharing, the Holy Spirit. Waiting for the initial "promised" out pouring was over. He had arrived and is here now, yet, today's church is still waiting for God to come and do something more before we'll obey the Great Commission. Even those of us who have been filled with the Holy Spirit repeatedly, have bought into the idea that we should keep waiting for God and all the big things that are "about to happen." This book is about making those things happen, now. Of course, Jesus had, and has, a different idea from those who want to keep waiting for "someday revival." It was almost as if He included the following verse specifically for the Christians of today. He specifically said to His followers, and us: "Quit saying, 'There are yet four months and then comes the harvest (revival).' Behold, look now, for the fields are already ripe for harvest."Yes, there "is" much more to be had, revivals do happen, and maybe something "big" is coming. The presence of God is wonderful, and the more of it, the better. But, God is not the one withholding revival, power, or miracles. And waiting for Heaven to open, is not the answer. It is our job, and choice, to believe the Bible. Maybe, while we've been waiting for God, He's been waiting for us to do what He commanded. Again, "the fields are ripe, now!" We have the whole plan backward. We think revival will bring miracles. It's the other way around. The Great Commission contains those things that will cause revival.
