Parveen Shakir Jaisa Main Nay Dekha

Rafaqat Javed
4.9/5 (27336 ratings)
Description:Perveen Shakir (1952-1994) was a poet whose sudden death in a tragic car accident, left an unforgettable mark on the literary scene of Urdu literature. She died at the prime of her life; of her talent, having had four successful books published in her life time; of her career as a Customs Officer; and at the prime of her beauty. Two decades have passed since she left this world, but the fame and interest in the person still continue. This can be seen in the number of books written on her poetry. However there are few books on her life. With this in mind the members of the Perveen Shakir Trust requested, in fact coerced Mrs. Rafaqat Javed, a friend and close associate of the poet to recount the memories of her association with the late Perveen Shakir. Hence this book. It was on her visits to India in 1989 and 1990 that Perveen Shakir stayed with Mrs. Rafaqat Javed and her husband, Air Marshal Qazi Javed of the Pakistan Air Force. Both ladies developed an instant and sincere friendship which lasted till the end. Perveen and her son Murad were often house guests at their house, wherever their place of posting, whether Risalpur in 1990, Peshawar, the next year, Kamra in 1992 and lastly their house in the E-9 Air Force Colony in Islamabad. Rafaqat is the mother of three handsome boys, all of whom showered their affection on Murad. The book is captive reading throughout as it gives an insight into the person of Perveen Shakir in a buigraphical style. It is only a person with a beautiful personality and temperament who can see the good in others. Rafaqat is such a person, a novelist with the sensitivity of a poet who has in this book recalled the happy moments spent with the poet.
