El segundo consiste en hacer protagonistas de la historia a las mujeres que al lado de sus padres, hijos, esposos, hermanos y amigos lucharon por cambiar su país, pero lo hicieron de un modo muy distinto: desde el lugar entrañable que otorga el amor por una causa, pero sobre todo el que se confiere a las personas amadas que ofrendan su vida para defender grandes causas. Las protagonistas de este libro encarnan y dan voz a todas aquellas que hacen la historia misma de una sociedad con sus propias manos, a través de los hechos en apariencia más imperceptibles, pero los más significativos: la solidaridad, la presencia constante, la lucha silenciosa y, por encima de lo demás, el poderoso vínculo que mantienen con sus seres queridos.Considerada por el propio Carlos Montemayor como su mejor novela, se lo confesó a su esposa Susana antes de morir.
